When My Lord Returns

When my Lord returns
I will kneel before him and bow my head
And speak unto him thus:
Master, I am unworthy to be in your company.
I strove to follow your example, but I failed.
I fear I saved no one, freed no one, spared no one, comforted no one.
When I spoke the truth, I was vilified;
When I stood up for peace, I was stoned;
When I acted out of love, I was scourged;
And when I defied power, I was crucified.

Then will not my Lord say unto me thus:
"Chin up, kid. I know just how you feel."
